These days, modern living requires the homeowners to be out of their homes during the daytime to make a living. This often poses as an opportunity for burglars and robbers to break into their homes, leaving their family exposed to such threats. This makes many homeowners worry at times. However, these worries can be reduced through the installation of security cameras as it helps to reassure that their home and families are safe while they are away.

Surveillance systems were expensive during their earlier years, which is why only major corporations as well as the wealthy could afford them. Nowadays, the cost of technology has become cheaper due to technological advancements. Competition is also a huge factor in making surveillance systems more affordable for the masses. In fact, modern surveillance systems today are packed with enough technology and features that decades ago you will find them only existent in movies.

One of the new features of suveillance systems these days are internet security cameras which are capable of being connected to the internet for remote monitoring. This allows the homeowners to watch and monitor their home even if they halfway across the world. This technology is possible thanks to the advent of the Internet as well as broadband technology. Another technology that is available today is DVRs. Decades ago, the recording medium used by security cameras were on analog video cassettes. These were not only bulky, but they also contained very little recording time. These days, surveillance systems record their video feed digitally on DVRs. It not only is more convenient as it takes less space, but it also has a very large capacity capable of recording non-stop for weeks on end.
