Many people, young and old, male or female love playing basketball game because they find it a rewarding game to play as it not only help to build camaraderie between friends and colleagues, but it also helps to keep you fit. However, since basketball can also be considered as a contact sport, with somewhat less force than a collision sport, it is only proper that the sport contains rules and regulations that players must abide to. Any violation of the rules, such as illegal contact will result in a foul. Below are lists of fouls that can be seen in basketball:
1. Offensive Foul – this foul is committed by players who are currently on the offense. Fouls such as this usually occurs when the current ball handler forces his way and intentionally try bump passes a defensive player who is currently stationary.

2. Holding – this foul can be committed whether your team is on the offense or defense. This violation is called when any players uses their hands to inhibit the movement of an opponent.
3. Hand Check – this foul is committed by players who are on defense. This violation is called when any defensive player tries to continually use their hands on the offensive ball handler.
4. Illegal Screen – this foul is committed by players of an offensive team. This violation occurs when an offensive teammate moves in between the ball handler and the defender in an attempt to block the defensive player.
5. Reaching Foul – this foul is committed by players of a defensive team. This violation occurs when a defensive player tries to reach in the ball handler in an attempt to steal the ball but makes contact with the ball handler.
6. Intentional Foul – this foul occurs when a defensive player intentionally commits a foul for the sole purpose of stopping the clock.
7. Shooting Foul – this foul occurs when a player who is attempting to make a shot gets fouled. If the shot makes it, he is rewarded with 1 free throw. If the shot is not made, the player is rewarded 2 free throws. A shooting foul made outside the 3-point arc will be given 1 free throw if the shot is made or three free throws if the shot is not made.
8. Technical Foul – this foul is given to unruly players. The penalty for a technical foul is 1 free throw for the opposing team.
9. Flagrant Foul – this foul involves excessive contacts that are unnecessary. The penalty for a flagrant foul is 2 free throws for the opposing team and a disqualification of the person who committed the flagrant foul.
